Dogs are seen to be panting all the time and lick almost everything. A wet nose is a part of a dog that you can never get rid of. While they drool and drip, they tend to get hydrated like us humans too. While you can explain the importance of water and the danger of not having enough, to people, what can you do with your dog? You obviously can’t sit them down for a health talk, no matter how responsive they are to your commands and moods.
Here are a few creative ways to get them to drink more:
Have a water fountain at home for your dog, so that they can have fun and drink more water in the process. Find the best dog water fountain available and buy it for your dog. Maybe a little expensive but will be a worthy investment in terms of your dog’s health.
Always ensure your dog’s water bowl is full and fill it up before you step out. A dedicated bowl will train them to drink from it when they are thirsty, also when the bowl is filled.
Give them toys that have water filled in them. Chewing on watery substance can keep them hydrated
Give your dog more liquid food than solid. This way he will be hydrated without having to make an effort.
If your dog is not fond of plain water, drop a bone or some dog food particles into the water bowl. This will impart a taste of their favorite food and make them drink more water.
Make your dog a doggie smoothie with all his favorite food or flavors. This will make him drink up more and get hydrated in the process.
Make ice pops with your dog’s favorite foods. A cold treat is never missed and is a great way to ensure your dog gets not only hydrated but some nutritional addition too.
