Cancer affects us all. In the United States alone, almost 14 million people are living with disease. That population is growing annually and is expected to reach 18 million by 2020. Three of four families in the U.S. have at least one member dealing with cancer – and all of the practical and emotional issues that come with the illness.

CancerForward is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting, educating and sharing information among cancer survivors, empowering them to move forward with their lives. Via digitally-based platforms, we support cancer patients, their friends, family and caregivers – collectively considered survivors – from the time of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

We accomplish our mission in part by creating awareness to alert cancer survivors and the public at large to the unique, life-lasting needs of cancer survivors. Additionally and more directly, CancerForward provides cancer survivors what we believe to be safe, accurate and comprehensive resource information, plus education about cancer survivorship programs, plus peer support – all through our interactive web communications channels.

Through resource information and education CancerForward addresses:

  • risks of recurrence and diagnosis of second cancers and the preventative measures
    survivors can take to reduce those risks;
  • survivors’ need to communicate and plan with primary care physicians at the
    completion of cancer treatment;
  • survivor access to specialized follow-up planning for rehabilitation of physiological
    and psycho-sociological problems; and,
  • the means for survivors to achieve quality-of-life physically, emotionally and
    practically, during and after cancer care.

Access to information and survivor groups is often unfeasible for survivors who want to remain anonymous or who live in a geographical area where support groups are difficult or inconvenient to locate. CancerForward addresses this need by providing a managed, moderated Internet-based peer support group.

CancerForward works in tandem with various healthcare institutions and cancer service organizations throughout the United States to help survivors link to bricks-and-mortar support groups, to promote survivor participation in clinical trials and research studies, and to promote events dedicated to improving survivors’ quality of life.

Though every case is unique, every individual facing a cancer diagnosis encounters challenges. CancerForward is here to help survivors deal with these challenges, with the goal of empowering survivors to move forward with their lives.
